THE ENTRANCE HALL OF THE SALLE ANDRÉ-MATHIEU
The Salle André-Mathieu is one of the most iconic performance halls in the Montreal Metropolitan Region. Located within the Cégep Montmorency in Laval, it has witnessed since 1979 numbers of celebrated performers as well as emerging artists. In 2016, the Salle André-Mathieu thoroughly revised its corporate image and the performing arts hall is now simply referred to as the SAM. The Minicucci Architecte firm was mandated to restore and renovate the arts auditorium.
At the same time, La Firme was retained to entirely redesign the lobby, the box office, the bar and its adjoining multidisciplinary space. With a wink to the lustre of yesteryear, we completely revisited the various areas such as lighting, signage as well as the new furniture collection which is a spin-off of the existing orchestra level seats of the SAM. Aside from giving these furnishings a second life, these elements can easily be stowed and reconfigured depending on the events. The new bar is also a module that can be extended and easily moved thanks to its satellite components which allow the furnishings to be 100% functional. To sum it up, our André-Mathieu Project is a good example where reusable and multifunctional items can result in an ingenious and beautiful design. This project was carried out with the assistance of Solufab and Johan Hogdahl.
